Udhayam General Store

We are located at 40, Santhamangalam in Madapuram. The shop is small and we open it every morning before the sun is fully up. People come by for their daily milk and other basic things. The shelves are quite packed with soaps, lentils, and different snacks. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty but we try to keep it as tidy as we can. My uncle used to run this place before me and he taught me how to keep track of everything. We know most people in Madapuram by their first names. It’s not a fancy space with bright lights or anything like that. We just have the basics that people need. It gets really busy in the mornings when everyone wants tea leaves and sugar. In the afternoons it is much quieter. I usually sit on a small wooden stool and wait for the next person. The street outside is narrow so the big delivery trucks have a hard time getting close. We stock what the locals ask for most. If someone wants a specific brand of biscuits, I try to pick it up when I go to the wholesaler next. It is a regular store and there is nothing special about it. We have a fridge that hums a lot but it keeps the drinks cold. I live nearby so it's a short walk. People stop to talk as much as they do to buy stuff. That is just how it goes here in Santhamangalam.
