Suresh Kumar

I’m Suresh Kumar and I’m located at 68, B Railway Colony in Tuticorin. This is down in Tamil Nadu, and living in the railway colony means there is a very specific feel to the neighborhood. You’re always aware of the trains and the people who work on the tracks. My house is one of the older government-style quarters, with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. I’ve turned one of the front rooms into a small office where I manage my business. Tuticorin is a port city, so it’s always humid and there is a saltiness in the air. I have a big fan that runs constantly to keep the air moving. Most of the people around here are railway employees or their families, so everyone knows each other. I’ve lived here for years, and my father was in the railways too. The office is pretty basic, just a metal desk, a couple of chairs, and a cupboard full of ledgers. I don’t use much technology besides my phone and an old laptop. It’s a quiet life for the most part. Sometimes I go down to the station just to see the morning trains come in before I start my work. It’s a practical place to be. I don't need a fancy storefront because most of my work is done through people I’ve known for a long time. It’s just a regular home and a regular business, nothing more.
