Shriram Engineering & Electricals

We've been here at 30, 31, and 32 Palayamkottai Road for a good while now. Shriram Engineering & Electricals isn't a fancy place, just a regular shop where we deal with wires and motors every day. If you look across from the Cruz Fernandez Statue, you'll see us. It’s a busy spot. Usually, the mornings start with opening up the shutters and checking what needs to be fixed. There is always a lot of dust from the road, but that's just how it is here. Most people know us by the statue landmark. We have three shops right next to each other, which helps because we need the extra space for all the parts we keep. It gets a bit crowded sometimes when several people come in at once. We spend most of our time on the shop floor or behind the counter. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait it out, or we just keep working with torches. It is not like the big offices in the city. We wear regular clothes and get our hands dirty. The traffic on Palayamkottai Road is constant, so there is always noise from buses and horns. We’ve grown used to it over the years. We just focus on the work right in front of us. It is a simple life here in the shop, nothing too complicated. We just show up, do the jobs that come in, and close up when the sun goes down. We usually have some tea around four o'clock.
