Our workshop is down in Alwarkurichi on Middle Street. It is a quiet place in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. We spend most of our time making furniture and fixtures for retail shops. There is always the sound of saws and hammers going in the back. We use different kinds of wood and metal depending on what is needed. The smell of sawdust is everywhere. It is a local business and most of the people working here live nearby. We don't have a big fancy showroom. Most of our work is done to order. We show people what we can do and then we get to work. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry the paint or the finish, so we have to wait. It is just part of the job. We take pride in making things that are strong and will last for a long time. Shop owners come to us because they know we do honest work. We don't use any high-tech machines, just the standard tools that get the job done right. The street outside is narrow and sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting in. But we manage. It is a good life here in the village, making things with our hands. We have been doing this for years and plan to keep at it for many more. That is how we have always done things in this small shop.
