Our office for Sobha Developers Ltd is down on First Cross Street in Palayankottai, which is part of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. It is a very traditional area, and the heat down here can be quite something, especially in the middle of the day. We are located at number 3, and it’s a fairly quiet street most of the time compared to the main roads. Even though Sobha is a big name in the building world, this specific office feels more like a local branch where we just handle the immediate needs of the projects in this region. We have a lot of maps and blueprints pinned up on the walls, and the floor is usually a bit dusty from people coming in from the construction sites. Most of the staff speaks Tamil, and we spend a lot of the day talking to contractors or people who are interested in the new developments. We have a small pantry in the back where we keep the coffee things, as everyone here drinks coffee more than tea. The work is mostly about checking on progress and making sure the materials are arriving on time at the different locations. It’s a lot of practical, hands-on management. We don't spend much time on fancy presentations. It’s more about being on the phone and making sure the guys on the ground have what they need to keep the buildings going up.
