Lucky Tea Company

Lucky Tea Company sits at 7, Main Bazaar Road in Ayyapuram. Being in Kadayanallur, the weather can get quite hot, so we try to get most of our heavy lifting done early in the morning before the sun gets too high. Our shop is on a street that stays crowded with bikes and carts. There’s always someone shouting or a horn honking right outside. We handle a lot of tea here, mostly in big sacks that come in from the hills. The inside of the shop is pretty simple. We have some wooden shelves and a few benches for people to sit on if they need to wait. We don’t have a lot of decorations on the walls, just a calendar and maybe a clock that is a few minutes slow. My brother and I run the place, and we usually argue about where to put the new stock. It’s a family thing, I guess. We have regulars who come in every week, and we know exactly what they want without them asking. We don’t do any big promotions or sales. We just sell the tea at a fair price and hope people come back. The floor needs sweeping every hour because of the bits of leaves that fall out of the bags. It’s a messy business sometimes, but it’s our business. We’ve stayed in Ayyapuram because this is where our people are.
