Jai Anjaneya Driving School

I spend most of my day out on the road, but the home base for Jai Anjaneya Driving School is at No. 61/5 on Madurai Main Road. Kayathar is a busy spot, especially with all the long-distance buses and trucks passing through on the highway. I usually start early, around seven, before the sun gets too high and the road gets too crowded. The office is small, just enough space for a desk and a few chairs for students to sit while they fill out their paperwork. We have a couple of cars that we keep parked out front, and I’m always checking the oil or the tire pressure between lessons. Teaching people to drive in Kayathar takes a lot of patience because the Madurai Main Road doesn't forgive many mistakes. I’ve seen all sorts of learners, some who are naturals and others who are terrified of the clutch. My clothes usually smell like petrol and exhaust by the end of the day, but that’s just part of the job. There’s a small tiffin center down the road where I grab a quick lunch when I have a gap between students. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team. Most people just see the cars or hear about us from their neighbors. It’s hard work, but seeing someone finally get their license makes it feel like it is worth the effort. It is quite a relief.
