Our shop is at 19 Police Lane. It’s practically right next to the bus stand in Manapparai, so people find us easily when their tech breaks down. It's usually a mess of cables, opened-up laptops, and screwdrivers on the counters. At Laptop Lab, we spend our days squinting at motherboards and trying to figure out why a screen won't turn on. The shop is small and fills up quickly when a few customers come in at once. Being so close to the bus stand means we get a lot of people who are just passing through and need a quick fix. We don't have a lot of room for storage, so we try to get the repairs done and back to the owners as fast as we can. It’s a bit noisy with the buses idling nearby, but you stop noticing it after a week or two. We drink a lot of coffee to stay focused on the tiny parts. Sometimes we can't find a spare part and have to wait for the courier, which is frustrating for everyone. We don't put on any airs; we just tell you if we can fix it or if it’s time to buy a new one. It is honest work and we enjoy the puzzle of a broken computer. We’re usually here until late evening, lit by the glow of the desk lamps.
