Jeyam Cabs is over at No 6, N S Charry Street. We’re really close to the Srirangam Railway Station, so we spend a lot of our time watching the train schedules. When a train arrives, that’s when we’re the busiest. You can practically see the station from near our office. The street is a bit narrow, and it can get jammed up with autos and cycles, but that’s just life in Srirangam. We started this cab service because we saw how many people struggle to find a decent ride when they get off the train with all their luggage. Our office is just a simple place where we keep the records and wait for the phone to ring. We don’t have any fancy decorations or corporate mission statements. We just have cars and drivers. Sometimes the weather is too hot, or the rain makes the roads slippery, but we try to keep the cars moving regardless. It’s a lot of long hours, especially for the drivers who are out late at night or early in the morning for the first trains. We know the city well, from the narrow lanes near the temple to the highway heading out of Trichy. We don’t promise anything impossible; we just try to be there when someone needs a lift. It’s a straightforward way to run a business, and being near the station keeps us right in the thick of things every day.
