About Jai Girigobardhan Rice Mill – Agriculture & Farming in Tiruchirappalli
We are located out on an unnamed road in Nattarmangalam. It’s at number 26, but since the road doesn't have a proper name, people usually just look for the big building with the rice husks outside. The air around here is always filled with that sweet, earthy smell of rice being processed. It is a bit out of the way, so you don't get much city noise, just the sound of the mill and the birds. We have big piles of bags everywhere. Some are full of raw paddy and others are ready to go out. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We have a few workers who have been with us for years. We all know the rhythm of the machines. It gets loud when everything is running, so we have to shout a bit to hear each other. Sometimes a tractor pulls up and blocks the whole road while we unload. Nobody seems to mind though, that is just how things move in Nattarmangalam. We spend a lot of our time checking the quality of the grains by hand. It’s dusty work, and you end up with it in your hair and clothes. By the time we close up, the sun is usually setting over the fields. It’s a quiet life, but the mill keeps us plenty busy from Monday to Saturday.
