Out on Dindugul Road, things are a bit different. Harihar Power & Alloy Pt. Ltd. is at number 4, and you can usually tell you're close because of the general hum of the area. It’s an industrial stretch, so there is always a bit of dust and the smell of metal in the air. The office is right there on-site, which means we hear everything that goes on. It’s not the kind of place where you wear a suit and tie. Most of us are in sturdy clothes because you never know when you might need to step out and look at something. The desks are covered in technical drawings and old notebooks. We spend a lot of time talking about power cycles and alloy mixtures, but it’s just shop talk to us. The heat from the operations can be intense, so we have heavy-duty fans going all the time. Lunch is usually a quick affair, sometimes brought in from one of the stalls down the road. We’ve been at this location for a while now, and the neighbors are all in similar lines of work, so we help each other out with tools or advice when needed. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of day. When the shift ends, we’re usually pretty tired, but it’s a good kind of tired. The road outside is always busy with lorries moving materials back and forth, especially in the late evening.
