Gurusthan Pooja Stores

Gurusthan Pooja Stores is our small business at 42, Poonthotam. We are tucked away in the Kajapet area of Palakarai, which is a busy part of town. It can be a bit of a walk to find us if you don't know the streets well, but we have been at this address for many years. The shop itself is full of items from the floor to the ceiling. We often have to use a small stool to reach the things on the top shelves. It’s a bit cramped inside when more than two people come in at once, but nobody seems to mind. We spend most of our time chatting with the regulars and keeping the stock in order. The lighting isn't the best in here, so we keep the front door wide open to let in the sun. Some days are much slower than others, especially when the weather is bad and the streets in Palakarai get a bit muddy. We just sit and wait for the next person to walk in. We don't do any big promotions or anything like that. People just know we are at number 42. It’s a practical way to run things. We like being part of the community in Poonthotam. Every day is a little different, but the work stays the same. We just keep things simple and honest here.
