Arjunan Appalam

We are located at 4/64 Chinthamani Line, which is a bit of a narrow street but it’s home to us. Arjunan Appalam is a place where we’ve been making things the old-fashioned way for a long time. Our day usually starts before the sun is fully up because that’s the best time to get the work moving. We spend a lot of time mixing the ingredients and making sure the texture is just right. It’s a very hands-on process, and our clothes usually end up with a bit of flour on them by the end of the shift. We don’t have a big factory or automated machines; it’s mostly just us using our hands and the tools we’ve always used. The space can feel a bit small when we have a lot of stock ready to go, but we manage to make it work. Neighbors often walk by and wave, or stop in for a quick chat about how the day is going. We don’t have any big signs or advertisements. People know us because we’ve been here on Chinthamani Line for so long. Sometimes we have to move things around to make room for the drying racks, and it can be a bit of a puzzle. We focus on making a solid product that we’d be happy to use ourselves. It’s a simple life and a simple business, and we like the rhythm of the work we do every single day.
