About Sakthi Coir Yarn Industry – Textile in Tiruchchendur
Kayamozhi is where we operate. It’s a place where you can really feel the sun and see the dust from the fiber we work with. We deal in coir yarn, which is a messy and tough job. We take the coconut husks and turn them into something useful. The air around the shed is always full of that earthy smell. We don’t have a big corporate office; our workspace is more about the machinery and the storage areas for the raw material. It’s physical work. We get up early before the heat gets too bad to start the processing. Our hands are usually rough from handling the fibers all day. We aren't trying to sell anyone a dream; we just sell yarn that’s made the way it’s supposed to be made. People in the village know us, and we hire folks from nearby. It’s a basic setup with some old equipment that we keep running with a bit of oil and some patience. We don’t have a marketing department. If the yarn is good, people buy it. That’s how it has always worked for us. The birds usually nest in the rafters of the main shed, and the sound of the machines is just part of the background noise. It’s a quiet life except for the work itself. We stay busy until the sun goes down and then we head home.
