Our office is on Thana Road in the Tinsukia district. If you know this part of the country, you know that tea is everything around here. River Valley Tea Company (P) Ltd. is right in the middle of it all. The road outside can get pretty muddy when the rains come, and the trucks are always rumbling past. We have a very basic setup in our building. It is not about having a fancy lobby; it is about having a dry place to store the tea and a desk to handle the paperwork. We spend our days coordinating with the gardens and the transporters. It is a lot of phone calls and checking on the weather. We don't use any of those big, empty business words. We are just folks who have grown up around the tea industry and decided to make a go of it ourselves. Some days are long, especially during the peak season when everything is moving at once. We just have a small team here on Thana Road, and we all pitch in where needed. It’s an honest way to make a living and we don't try to make it sound like more than it is. We are just a local tea company doing our bit in a town that lives and breathes tea. It’s hard work, but we are used to it and wouldn't really know what else to do.
