Maruti Tea Industries

Out here in Village Kachari Gaon, we run Maruti Tea Industries. We are tucked away in Taluka Laipuli in the Tinsukia district. The location is right near Kachari Road, so it’s easy for the trucks to find us when they need to pick up the tea bags. Working with tea is a long process that starts early and ends late for most of us. We deal with the leaves and the machines every day. It gets loud in the factory when everything is running at once. The smell of tea is everywhere, even on our clothes when we go home at night. It’s a rural area, so things move a bit slower except inside the gates where we are working. We have a small group of people who have been working with us for years now. They know exactly how the equipment sounds when it’s working right or if something is wrong. The weather in Tinsukia can be tricky for the tea, especially during the heavy monsoon rains. We just try to keep things moving along without too much trouble. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to fix it ourselves because parts take forever to get here. It isn't a glamorous job, just a lot of manual labor and keeping track of the bags. We spend our time checking the quality and making sure the orders are ready on time. It is a simple life centered around the cycles of the tea.
