If you walk down Gandhi Park Road and head into Sharma Market, you’ll find us at Shop Number 17. It’s a small space, but we’ve managed to pack a lot into it over the years. We deal with all sorts of trading goods, so the shelves are usually overflowing. Sometimes it’s hard to find a place to stand when a new delivery arrives. The market gets very crowded, especially in the evenings when everyone is out doing their shopping. We have a small stool for customers to sit on, but most people just stand by the counter. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to clear everything out to do it. It’s a busy life here. We know most of the other shopkeepers in the market, and we often share a cup of chai while waiting for the morning rush. The fan overhead wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. We spend a lot of time writing out receipts by hand and checking our stock levels against a battered notebook. It isn't a high-tech operation, just us and our goods. Sometimes the street noise makes it hard to hear the person on the other end of the phone, so we have to step into the back. It’s just how things go in a place like this. We stay open late most days to make sure everyone gets what they need.
