Engineer

Ritesh Jain is who I am, and I work out of Hijuguri in Tinsukia. My father, Vijay Kumar Jain, taught me the value of a solid day's work. Assam is a beautiful place, but the rain can make engineering a bit of a challenge sometimes. We have our little setup here where I look at blueprints and handle the local technical needs. It is a noisy neighborhood sometimes with the trains and the traffic, but we get the work done. I don't have a fancy secretary or a glass building. It’s just a practical space where I can focus on the numbers and the sketches. Most of the people who come to see me are neighbors or folks from the nearby tea estates. We talk about what they need and I see what I can do to help. Being an engineer in a place like Tinsukia means you have to be ready for anything. You can’t just follow a textbook all the time. Sometimes you have to figure things out on the fly. I've lived here most of my life so I know the ground and the people well. It’s not about being the biggest company in town. It’s just about being there when someone needs a technical problem solved. I keep my tools clean and my desk messy, which is how I like it. That’s just the way it is here in our part of the world.
