Our main office is down in Missionpara, Tinsukia, but we are tied closely to the operations in Jaintia Hills over in Meghalaya. It’s a bit of a distance between the two, but that is how Cement Manufacturing Company Ltd works. Being in Assam means we see a lot of rain and green trees, which is a nice backdrop for the heavy industrial work we do. Tinsukia is a real hub for this part of the country, and we feel right in the middle of it. The office is usually humming with the sound of old fans and the scratching of pens on paper. We don't have a corporate handbook telling us how to smile; we just treat people fairly and get the cement moved. Most of our day is spent dealing with the logistics of getting material from the hills down to the plains. It involves a lot of phone calls to drivers and checking the weather reports for the mountain passes. We have a small yard where we keep some samples, and there is usually a cat or two wandering around the gate. It’s a relaxed atmosphere, but we take the work seriously enough to ensure nobody is waiting too long for their supplies. We are just a group of locals making sure the business stays steady and the bills get paid month after month in this corner of the world.
