Our hospital is the Taluk Head Quarters in Chavakkad right in the Thrissur district of Kerala. Being a headquarters means we get a lot of cases sent to us from the smaller clinics in the area. The building is located at Chavakkad P.O. and it’s a pretty easy place to find if you are heading through town. Kerala gets a lot of rain as everyone knows so the roof sometimes has a few leaks that we have to put buckets under during the heavy monsoons. The wards are usually quite crowded with families who bring food and blankets for their relatives who are staying with us. We have a lot of nurses who are very busy running around from bed to bed all day long. The smell of coconut oil and disinfectant is pretty common around here. Outside the main gate there are usually some auto-rickshaws waiting and a few shops selling fruit and juice. We don't have a lot of high-end furniture and the benches in the waiting area are made of hard wood that isn't very comfortable for long sits. We try to keep the floors mopped but with so many people walking in with muddy shoes from the rain it is a constant job. It’s a tough place to work sometimes because of the volume of people but it’s an important part of the community here in Thrissur.
