St. James Hospital

Down in Santasahi, St. James Hospital is where many of us spend our entire day. It’s a local place through and through. The building is tucked away in Santasahi, and it has a very lived-in feel to it. It’s not one of those new, glass-and-steel buildings you see in the big cities. We have wooden desks and old filing cabinets that have been here since the start. The people who work here are mostly from the neighborhood, so there is a lot of chatting in the halls about local news and family. It’s a bit informal, which I think helps the patients feel less nervous. We don’t have a big budget for fancy things, so we put our resources into the basic medical supplies we need. The floor tiles are a bit worn down from years of people walking on them, but we keep them clean. Every morning, we start by checking the inventory and making sure the doctors have their schedules ready. It’s a lot of routine stuff that keeps a hospital going. We don’t talk about being the best or anything like that. We just do the job. Some days the paperwork is piled high and the phones won't stop ringing, but we just take it one person at a time. That is how we’ve always done it here in Santasahi. It works for us and it works for the people who come here. We don't need any more than that to keep going.
