We are located at 44D, Perumbaikad Road. It’s a bit of a trek from the main town center, which is actually quite nice because it’s quieter here. We have a decent-sized warehouse where we store all the raw spices before they get processed. The rain in this part of the country can be quite heavy, so we spend a lot of time checking the roof for leaks. We wouldn't want any moisture getting into the bags. Most of our work involves sorting through the spices to make sure there are no stones or bits of stem left in them. It’s tedious work that requires a lot of patience. We have a few local women who come in every morning to help with the cleaning and grading. They sit on low stools and chat while they work. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, though we do have to pick up the pace when a big order comes in. We don’t use any fancy machinery for the sorting; it’s mostly done by hand and eye. The smell of pepper is quite strong today, which usually means someone spilled a sack in the loading area. We just sweep it up and keep going. We aren't looking to change the world; we just want to provide decent spices to the people who buy from us. By the time we lock up, the sun is usually behind the trees.
