P V Spices

Our place is situated at 14, Airport Road in Piraroor, right in the Puthussery area. It’s a good spot because of all the traffic going toward the airport, though we mostly focus on what’s happening inside our four walls. We spend most of our time dealing with sacks of raw spices. You can smell the turmeric and pepper the moment you step off the road. It’s a bit of a dusty job, and our clothes usually end up smelling like the shop by the end of the day. We have a few grinders that make a lot of noise when they’re running full speed. We don't really do much advertising. People around Puthussery just know we’re here and stop in when they need something fresh for their kitchen. The floor is concrete and we try to keep it swept, but there’s always a bit of spice dust settling on everything. It’s just me and a couple of others helping out. We spend the mornings weighing things out into bags and tying them up with string or sealing them. Sometimes the delivery trucks take a while to navigate the road, which can be frustrating, but we just wait it out. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening. We like the rhythm of it. The seasons change what we have in stock, but the way we do things stays pretty much the same.
