Medical College Hospital

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is located in the New Building Block of the Medical College Hospital in MG Kavu. Even though it’s called the new building, it’s already starting to feel lived-in. The hallways are wide and the paint is a pale green that’s supposed to be calming, I think. We have several specialized rooms for different types of jaw and mouth work. You can often hear the sound of instruments being sterilized in the back. It’s a specific kind of place, so we don’t get the general foot traffic that the main hospital gets, but we’re still plenty busy. The waiting area has a television that usually plays news at a low volume. Most of the people who come in are a bit worried about their procedures. We try to keep things moving so nobody is sitting there for too long. The desks are covered in folders and there’s always a phone ringing somewhere. Sometimes the elevator in this block gets stuck between floors, so a lot of us prefer to use the side stairs near the equipment room. It’s a lot of technical work and specialized equipment that needs constant checking. Our team is used to the long hours and the precise nature of the surgery schedules. It’s just a focused corner of the bigger hospital at MG Kavu. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay organized through the day.
