Krishna Ceramics

We are over here at Varikkat House in Chittissery, mostly just doing our day-to-day work with the ceramics. It’s a quiet place for the most part, right near the post office, which makes things easy when we need to get stuff out. My father started things off a while back and we just kept it going. The workshop gets pretty dusty sometimes, especially when we’re busy with a big batch of orders. You can usually find us out back near the kiln. It isn't a fancy setup or anything, just a solid roof and the tools we’ve gathered over the years. Most people in the village know where we are if they need something done. Sometimes the weather makes the clay act up, so we have to watch it close. We don't spend much time on the computer or doing paperwork, we'd rather be working with our hands. It's just a small team of us here. We stop for tea around four every afternoon, no matter how much work is left. The floor is usually covered in scrap pieces and there’s always a machine humming in the background. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy bags and making sure everything dries right. We’ve had the same neighbors for years and they don't mind the noise much. It’s just how things are at the house. We keep the doors open when it's hot to get a breeze through the place.
