Kairali Minerals

Our operations are centered in the Nalukettu area of Koratty. We have a small office and a storage yard where we keep the mineral samples and some of the heavy equipment. It’s a bit of a dusty environment, which is expected in this line of work. We handle various types of minerals that come in from local sources. There are about six of us who work here regularly. My uncle started this business a long time ago and I took over the daily running of it about ten years back. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anything like that. Usually, if a visitor comes, we just pull up a plastic chair in the main office. The walls are covered in charts and maps of the local quarries. We spend a lot of time out in the field checking on the quality of the materials. The road to the office can get a bit muddy during the monsoon, so we usually wear boots most of the year. We have an old truck that we use for moving smaller loads, but for the big stuff, we hire outside drivers. It’s a practical business. We don't spend money on things we don't need. The focus is just on getting the minerals processed and moved out to the buyers on time. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know and how we’ve always done it. We keep the equipment running and the yard organized as best we can.
