About Garam Matka – Housewares & Supplies in Thrissur
Garam Matka sits right at number 14 by the Alloor Junction in Kodakara. Being at a junction means there is never a quiet moment with all the buses and cars rushing past our front door. We use clay pots for a lot of what we do because it just feels more traditional and the tea seems to taste better that way. We spend a lot of time by the stove and it gets very hot especially in the afternoons. Kodakara is a busy place and we get people from all over stopping by when they are traveling through the area. We have a few benches where people can sit and rest their legs for a bit. The steam from the pots is always rising and you can smell it from down the road. We don't have any polished floors or expensive furniture here. It is just a basic setup with some sturdy tables and the matkas lined up on the counter. We start early when the air is still a bit cool to get the fire going. By midday the place is usually buzzing with people shouting their orders over the sound of the traffic outside. We try to keep things moving fast so nobody has to wait too long. It is a noisy, busy, and honest way to make a living and we are happy to be part of the Alloor community. We just keep the tea hot.
