Blue Bakerz

If you walk past St. James Hospital in Chalakudy, you’ll see us right across the way. Blue Bakerz has been sitting here for a bit, dealing with the daily rush of the street. The hospital brings a lot of people by, and we see all sorts of faces coming through the door. Some are in a hurry, others just want a quiet minute with something to eat. We start pretty early when the air is still a little cool. The smell of the oven usually gets going before most people are even awake. It’s not a perfectly clean place all the time because flour has a way of getting everywhere, no matter how much we sweep. Our counters are usually full of whatever we finished baking that morning. We don’t have a big team or anything, just a few of us making sure the trays are full and the coffee is hot. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the road for a minute, and the neighbors complain, but we try to be quick. It’s a simple spot. We aren’t trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the bread is fresh and the cakes aren’t too dry. It’s a lot of work on your feet, but seeing someone enjoy a snack makes it feel okay. Drop by if you’re near the P.O. area. We’re usually around until the sun goes down and everything is sold out.
