Uma Store

Uma Store has been around for quite a while at 65, Vilathikulam, on the Ettayapuram Road. We are a small, family-run shop that serves the local community here. We mostly sell the basic things that people use every day, like various soaps, hair oils, packets of biscuits, and some grains. Being on Ettayapuram Road means we see a lot of people going to and from work. Our shop isn't very large, so we have to use the space we have very carefully. We've built shelves all the way up to the ceiling to hold all the stock. It’s a bit of a climb to get things from the top sometimes. The building itself is quite old and has a simple stone floor that we sweep every morning. We don't use any modern technology for our business, just a basic calculator and a notebook for keeping our accounts. Most of our regular customers have been coming to us for years, and we know their families and what they usually need. We open early in the morning and stay open until late evening, though we might close for an hour in the afternoon if it’s very quiet. It’s a steady kind of life, and we don’t have any big plans for changes. We just want to keep providing the basic goods that our neighbors in Vilathikulam need. It’s hard work being on our feet all day, but it’s our living.
