Aanoor Bagley Coir Pvt. Ltd. is located at 27/e Munisamypuram Second Street. We work with coir, which is a bit of a rough business. The fibers get everywhere, on our clothes and in our hair. The building is just a big open space with a small office tucked in the corner. We spend the day processing the material and checking the bales. It’s loud because of the machinery we use to press and sort the coir. Munisamypuram is a working-class area, and our street is always busy with small trucks and carts. We don't have any polished floors or painted walls. It’s all very functional. We use a lot of twine and heavy needles. Our hands are tough from the work. We don't have a mission statement on the wall. We just have a calendar and a clock. Most of our days are spent in the back where the air is thick with the smell of coconut husks. It’s hard, physical labor. We don’t mind it much because it’s what we’ve always done. We start early when the air is still a bit cool. By noon, it’s hot and we take a long break in the shade. 27/e is our home for most of the week. We just keep our heads down and finish the orders that come in. It’s an honest living on Second Street. We try to keep the gate closed when it rains.
