Shanmuga Salt

Shanmuga Salt is located at number 43 on the East Coast Road in Vembar. We’re right by the coast, so the salt business is just what people do around here. It’s a simple life in Vembar, and our operation reflects that. We don’t have any fancy machines or a big marketing department. It’s just a group of us who know how to handle salt. You can usually feel the sea breeze coming off the water, but it also brings a lot of moisture that we have to watch out for. Our building is a basic structure that’s seen better days, but it keeps the salt dry and that’s what matters. We spend most of our time moving heavy bags and checking the quality of the batches. It’s a lot of physical work and your hands get rough from the salt after a while. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a polished image. We’re just local people providing salt to the community and the businesses nearby. The East Coast Road stays busy with traffic, so we see a lot of people passing through, but most of our customers are folks we’ve known for years. We don’t have a big mission or a vision; we just want to do a decent job every day. It’s quiet work, and we like it that way. We just keep our heads down and stay busy with the piles of salt. There is no secret to it, just keeping the rhythm of the work going.
