Down here in Muthupet, at No.6 on Old Post Office Street, is where we run Greenways Coconut Farmers. It’s a straightforward operation. We focus on coconuts because that’s what grows best around here and it’s what we know. A bunch of us who grow coconuts decided to pool our resources together so we could have a bit more say in how things are done. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make a living off the land we have. The office is right there on Old Post Office Street, which is a familiar spot for everyone in town. It’s a small place, nothing too special to look at, but it serves its purpose for our meetings and keeping track of the harvests. We spend a lot of time talking about prices, pests, and the best time to pick the nuts. It's a lot of physical work, and the weather really dictates how our week is going to look. We aren't polished business people. We speak plainly and we deal with things as they come up. Some days the price of coconuts is good, other days it's not, but we keep going. Having this company helps us stay organized and helps the local farmers here in Muthupet get through the tougher months. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done, but now we do it together under one name.
