Reddy Spices

We've been here at 56/78, Pothencode Road for a while now. Most people in Chenkottukonam know where the shop is. It's usually a bit dusty because of all the grinding we do. We mostly deal with whole spices and some powders that we pack right here. It’s a small space, so things get crowded when a shipment comes in. My cousin helps out on the weekends when it gets busy. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just a desk and some scales. It gets hot in the afternoons, especially in the back room where we store the bags. People come by mostly to get what they need for their home cooking. We try to keep things organized but sometimes the bags pile up. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting and weighing. Sometimes the smell of the chili is so strong it makes everyone sneeze, but you get used to it after a few years. We open early in the morning before the sun gets too high. There’s a tea stall nearby where we go when things are quiet. Nothing special about the place, just a regular local business doing what we do every day. We’ve had the same scales for ten years now and they still work fine. If you’re walking down Pothencode Road, you’ll probably smell the turmeric before you see the sign. That's just how it is here. Most days are just about getting the orders ready for the regulars who stop by.
