Kerala Highway Research Institute, Public Works Department, Gov

Our office is located at TC 29/1231-1 in the Palkulangara area of Thiruvananthapuram. It is a bit of an old house called Vilayil Veedu that we use for the Kerala Highway Research Institute. We are part of the Public Works Department. It’s not a big laboratory with shiny machines, more like a place where we keep our records and do our field reports. If you need to find us, just look for the building near the local temple area. We spend our days looking at road data and trying to figure out why some sections wear out faster than others. It is a lot of math and looking at soil samples. The guys here wear regular clothes and we don't really have a front desk person. We just answer the phone ourselves when it rings. Thiruvananthapuram is a nice city but the humidity can be a lot, so we mostly stay under the fans while we work. We have a lot of maps of the state highways pinned to the walls. It’s a government job so there is plenty of paperwork to go around. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big words. We just want the roads in Kerala to be a bit better for everyone who drives on them. It’s a slow process but we keep at it every day. Most of the furniture in here has been around since the office opened.
