Down at Kavaridi Junction in Pettah, you’ll find us tucked away near Paris Road. K J Ambulance Services has been operating from this spot for some time. We’ve got a couple of vans and a small crew that stays on rotation. Most days, we’re just waiting for the next request to come through. It gets a bit crowded around the junction during peak hours, but we manage to find our way through the shortcuts. The office is pretty basic, just some chairs and a desk where we keep the logs. We don’t have any big corporate backing, it’s just us local folks doing the work. Sometimes we help out with hospital transfers and other times it’s more urgent stuff. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. The tea shop across the street is where we usually grab a bite when things are slow. Keeping the equipment clean is a big part of the daily routine. We don’t really do any big advertising, people just know we are here at the junction. It’s a steady job and it keeps us busy. We know the roads around Pettah really well, which helps when traffic gets heavy. There’s always someone on duty, even on holidays. We just stay ready and do what is needed. It is a plain life but it's okay for us here.
