You can find Swens Spices Private Limited over at No.25 on Moses Street in West Gandhi Nagar. This is in the Avadi part of Chennai, and it’s a place that smells like turmeric and chili most of the time. When you work with spices, the smell stays on your clothes even after you go home. My wife always tells me she knows I’ve had a busy day before I even walk through the door. We spend our time grinding and mixing different things to get them ready for customers. Moses Street is a bit narrow, so when we have deliveries, it can be a bit of a squeeze for the trucks. We’ve had to talk to the neighbors about it more than once, but everyone is generally pretty nice about it. The building is an old one, and it has some quirks, like the door that squeaks no matter how much oil you put on the hinges. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few of us who know how to handle the spice grinders without getting dust in our eyes. It’s hard work and your hands are often stained by the end of the shift. We’ve been in Avadi for a good amount of time and we like the community here. It’s just a normal business where we show up, do our jobs, and go home to our families when the sun sets over the city.
