We are based at No. 1Kambar Street in the Konambedu part of Avadi. Most people around here know where we are because we’ve been in this same spot for a bit. The office isn’t much to look at, just a regular room where we keep our books and wait for people to stop by. Every morning, one of us gets here to roll up the shutters and sweep the front bit. It gets quite dusty with the traffic nearby. We handle the monthly chit collections for the folks in this neighborhood. Usually, things get busy around the first week of the month when everyone gets their pay. We sit behind the wooden desks and write out receipts by hand. It’s quiet most afternoons, just the sound of the ceiling fan clicking away. Sometimes the neighbors pop in just to chat for five minutes while they’re out getting groceries. We don't have any fancy computers or a big waiting lounge. There are just a few plastic chairs for people to sit while they wait their turn. We keep the paperwork in old metal cupboards that have seen better days. That is just how it is here. Most of our day is spent counting notes and making sure the entries in the registers are correct. It's a straightforward job and we just keep to our routine on Kambar Street. We’ve seen the area change a bit over the years but the office stays the same.
