New Pattukottai Kamatchi Mess - Nunpahal is our little place over in Sri Krishna Nagar. We are on 27/7 Street at Plot Number 4. It’s an unavagam, which means we’re all about the food, especially for the lunch crowd. The name is a bit long on the paperwork, but folks just call us Kamatchi Mess. We wake up early to start the pots. There’s always a lot of chopping and grinding going on before the sun even gets high. It’s a busy kitchen. We don’t have a lot of space, so things can get a bit tight when the lunch rush starts. We aren't trying to be a five-star hotel. We just serve the kind of food we eat at home. There are no fancy decorations on the walls, just tables and chairs and the smell of sambar and spices. We have a few people helping out, mostly family and friends from the area. Sometimes we run out of a certain dish before the day is over, and we just have to tell people sorry. It’s a simple way of living. We don't have a big corporate plan. We just want to make sure the food is hot and there’s enough for everyone who walks in. If you find yourself in Sri Krishna Nagar around noon, you’ll see the crowd outside. That’s us. We just keep our heads down and keep the plates moving.
