The smell of oil is the first thing you notice when you come to 34 Kumar Street. That’s where we run the Maga Ganapathi Oil Extraction Unit. We’ve been in Vadagarai for years, and the machinery has been humming along for most of that time. It’s a noisy, busy place, especially when we have a big batch of seeds to process. We don’t have a fancy showroom; it’s a working unit where we get our hands dirty. The floors are a bit slick, and there’s always a layer of dust from the bags, but that’s how an extraction unit is supposed to look. We spend our mornings checking the presses and making sure the containers are ready. Local farmers and suppliers bring their stuff to us, and we turn it into oil. It’s a physical job, and it’s tiring, but there’s a sense of satisfaction when the golden oil starts flowing. We don’t use any complicated chemistry here, just the old ways of pressing and filtering. The neighborhood is mostly residential and small shops, so we try to keep the noise down at night. Most people in Vadagarai know us by the sound of the machines or the scent on the breeze. It’s a small operation, run by a few of us who grew up around here. We just do the work, day in and day out, at our spot on Kumar Street.
