Our part of Essar Steel Ltd. India is located way down in the south. We are at 264/1 on West Street in Dharmapuri, which is a village in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu. The pin code here is 625520. It’s a very different world from the big industrial cities of the north. Here, it’s mostly fields and small houses, and life moves at a much slower pace. Our office is a simple building on a quiet street. We don’t have many employees here, just a couple of us who take care of the local paperwork and make sure the communications with the bigger offices stay open. Most of our work is about keeping records and handling the small details that come up in this region. We don’t have a lot of fancy technology or big corporate meetings. We just sit at our desks, keep the fans running to beat the heat, and do what needs to be done. The neighbors are mostly farmers, so we are a bit of an unusual sight, but everyone is friendly. We don't use any marketing talk or big slogans. We just work through the day and try to be accurate with our numbers. Sometimes we spend the afternoon just catching up on filing or talking to people who stop by with questions. It’s a simple, honest way to work, and we don’t feel the need to make it sound more important than it is.
