Our office is over on Dr Moorthy Road, specifically at 111/82 in Kumbakonam. It’s a classic Thanjavur district setting. The building is an older style, which fits right in with the rest of the street. We’ve got a solid wooden door and some benches for people to sit on. The air smells a bit like incense from the nearby shops. We spend our days managing the chit funds and keeping the books updated. Kumbakonam is the kind of place where everyone has time for a chat. We hear the temple bells in the distance sometimes. Our desks are covered in ledgers and pens. We don't use much technology besides the basic stuff. There’s a sense of history in the walls here. We’ve got some old photos of the town from years ago hanging up. The street can get crowded during festival times, so we sometimes have to push through the crowds to get to the office. We usually keep the windows open to get a breeze, even if it brings in some dust. It’s a simple life. We start the day with a prayer and then get to work. Most of our visitors are people we’ve known for a long time. They bring their children along sometimes. It’s just a part of the local community and we’re happy to be here.
