T A N Rice Mills

T A N Rice Mills is situated at 82, Keeranur Main Road in Aranthangi. This road gets a lot of trucks and tractors passing through all day long. We have been working out of this spot for quite some time now. The day usually starts with checking the power and getting the motors warmed up. There isn't much to say about the building other than it’s a functional space for milling. We see a lot of the same faces from around Aranthangi coming by. The air always smells like raw grain and heavy machinery oil. It gets pretty loud once everything is switched on, so we have to shout a bit to hear each other. We aren't trying to do anything fancy here. We just take the harvest and process it. Sometimes things break down and we have to spend the afternoon fixing a belt or a motor, which is just part of the job. The floors are concrete and they get covered in grain dust pretty fast. We try to keep things organized, but when it’s busy, there are bags stacked everywhere. It’s a straightforward business on Keeranur Main Road. We don't have a big office or anything like that. Just the mill and a small desk where we keep the books. That is how we like it, just doing the work and getting home when the sun goes down. It's a loud life but it's ours.
