Sri Pethaperumal Mill

The mill is situated at 510/7 in Periyar Nagar, which is part of Vallam. It is a place where the sound of machinery is the background music for our lives. Sri Pethaperumal Mill has been our livelihood for a good while now. We don’t have a fancy entrance or a receptionist; you just walk in and find whoever is available. Most of the time, that’s me or one of the boys covered in a bit of dust. The machinery is old but we keep it running with plenty of oil and some luck. Vallam is a decent place to work, though it gets incredibly hot in the afternoons. We handle whatever grains or materials the locals bring to us for processing. There is no hidden agenda or complex business model here. We just take the raw stuff, put it through the mill, and give it back in the form people need. The walls are a bit stained from years of work, and the roof leaks a tiny bit when it rains really hard, but we don't mind. We just put a bucket under it and keep going. It’s a very hands-on job and it doesn't leave much time for sitting around. We like the honesty of it. You put in the work, you see the result, and you go home tired but satisfied at the end of the day. This is just our way of life here in this corner of Vallam.
