Muthu Salt

We are located right at No:1 on the Nagapattinam Main Road in Vedaranniyam. Being on the main road means we see everything that passes by. Vedaranniyam is a place known for its salt, so we are right in the thick of it. Our building is simple and has been here for a long time. It’s mostly just a warehouse area with a small space for us to sit and do the paperwork. The sound of the traffic on the main road is like background music to our day. We start early, usually before the trucks start their long hauls. Handling salt is heavy, physical work. Our hands get rough from the grit, but we don't mind. It's just part of the job. There aren't any big logos or bright lights here. Just the name on a board outside. We mostly deal with local folks and transporters. We’ve lived in this area for a long time, so we know the weather patterns and when to expect the wind to pick up. When the salt comes in, it’s a busy time. We have to move fast to get it under cover. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of reliable people who know the routine. We don't talk much while we work, we just get on with it. It’s a good, steady life here on the main road. Muthu Salt is just our name, and we are happy to be part of the Vedaranniyam landscape. We just keep working until the sun goes down.
