If you walk down New Street in Muthupet, you can usually hear our machines at K.S.N. Mill starting up early in the morning. Thiruvarur District has always been a place defined by its agriculture, and we are just one small part of that whole system. The building we work in isn't exactly brand new, and the walls are often covered in a fine layer of dust from the grains, but it is where we spend the majority of our time. People from all over the Muthupet area bring their harvests in, and we get straight to work. It gets very noisy inside, and sometimes the power goes out without any warning, which really slows things down for everyone. When that happens, we just sit outside, have a bit of tea, and wait for the lights to come back on. We don't really bother with much advertising because most folks around here already know where No:15 is located. It is a very simple setup. My father used to tell me that a mill is only as good as the time you spend maintaining the equipment, so we spend a lot of our off-hours cleaning and oiling everything. Sometimes the heavy bags stack up really high and we have to work fast to get them moved out. It is a lot of heavy lifting and sweating, especially when the humidity gets high. We aren't trying to be famous, just a reliable place for the neighbors to get their milling done right.
