Ideal Engineering

Down on Sannathi Street in Tirubuvanam, you’ll find our little engineering shop at number 16. It’s a quiet enough street most days, though it picks up when there are local events. Ideal Engineering isn't a massive factory; it’s more of a neighborhood workshop where we know most of the people who walk past our door. We’ve got some lathes and some welding equipment that have seen better days but still work perfectly fine. We spend a lot of time on individual pieces, making sure they fit together like they’re supposed to. There’s usually a bit of a mess on the floor—metal shavings and bits of wire—but we sweep up every evening. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. If you come by, you just walk in and talk to whoever isn't currently running a machine. We like the pace of life here in Tirubuvanam. It’s steady. We take pride in the fact that we can fix things that other people might just throw away. Our day starts early when the sun isn't too hot yet. By the time the temple bells start ringing in the evening, we are usually wrapping things up. It’s just us doing what we know how to do best, without any fuss. The work is oily and loud sometimes, but it’s what we know. We aren't trying to change the world, just keeping the locals' machines running. It’s a decent way to spend a life.
