Aabharanam The Fashion Jewellers

We are tucked away on the first floor of the Philomena shopping mall in Arulanandha Nagar. It’s not the biggest mall, but it gets a decent crowd on the weekends. Our shop isn't very large, so we have to be careful with how we use the space. Most of our time is spent cleaning the glass cases because fingerprints show up so easily. We have all sorts of fashion jewellery laid out on velvet pads. It’s a lot of small items to keep track of. Sometimes a tiny earring back will fall on the floor and we have to get down on our hands and knees to find it. The mall music plays in the background all day, and you sort of stop hearing it after a while. We have a small stool behind the counter where we sit when there are no customers. It’s a quiet life for the most part. We aren't a big chain store with uniform clothes; we just wear what’s comfortable for a long shift. We use a little torch to check the stones and the clasps. It’s detailed work and can be hard on the eyes. We don't have a back room, so we eat our lunch right there or step out to the corridor. It’s just us, the jewellery, and the people walking past the window. One of the ceiling lights flickers sometimes and we need a ladder to reach it.
