Thyyel Handicrafts

Thyyel Handicrafts is located in the Lal Bhal Apartment building, which is number 8. We’re right near the Durga Mata Temple in the Kolsewadi area of Kalyan East. It’s a bit of a different setup because we work out of an apartment rather than a traditional storefront. You can hear the temple bells ringing throughout the day, which is actually quite nice once you get used to it. The space is mostly filled with materials and finished pieces that we are getting ready to send out. We don’t have any fancy displays; it’s more of a workspace where the actual crafting and packing happens. Since we are in a residential building, it’s usually pretty quiet except for the temple activities and the neighbors coming and going. We’ve lived and worked in Kalyan for a long time, so we know the area well. Sometimes people from the neighborhood drop by just to see what we are working on. We use the dining table for most of our administrative stuff and the spare room for storage. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we have a lot of orders, but we manage. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us doing the work day by day. It’s a practical way to run things without having to worry about a high-street rent, and it allows us to focus on the items we make.
