Shurparak Peace Foundation

You can find Shurparak Peace Foundation at C-111 in the Jeevan Vikas housing society. We’re located in Ambedkar Nagar, which is on Taki Road in Nallasopara East. It’s a busy neighborhood, and there’s always something going on outside our windows. We started this because we saw a need in our own community. We don't have a big corporate office; it’s just a room in the society building where we keep all our files and meet people. It’s a bit cramped sometimes when more than a few people show up, but we make it work. Most of the folks around here know where Jeevan Vikas is, so they don't have trouble finding us. We spend a lot of our time just talking to neighbors and trying to figure out how to help with local issues. We aren't polished or fancy. We just use plain English and deal with things as they come. Sometimes we’re out on the street more than we’re in the office. Nallasopara has its own pace, and we try to stick to that. We don't have a mission statement on the wall or anything like that. We just know what we have to do and we go about doing it. It’s a lot of small tasks that add up. Being in Thane, especially this part of it, means you have to be practical. We keep our focus on the immediate area. It’s just us, working out of a small flat. The windows don't close all the way, so we hear the street noise.
