Our unit is in the Saraswati Complex. It’s right behind the old Apsara Cinema on Kalyan Road in Bhiwandi. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with all the trucks and the traffic near Ganesh Society. Inside, things are always a bit loud because of the printing machines and the dyeing vats. There’s a constant smell of ink and steam in the air, which we’ve just gotten used to over the years. We spend a lot of time checking the colors against the light by the small window in the back. The floor is usually wet in some places, so you have to watch your step. It’s not the cleanest job, but it’s what we do. Lunch is usually brought from home and eaten quickly before the next batch of fabric needs to come out. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just sit outside on the steps until it comes back on. Dealing with the heat in the summer is probably the hardest part of being here in Thane. We’ve got a small team, mostly people from the nearby colonies who walk to work. It’s a straightforward setup without any fancy office chairs or anything like that. Just the machines, the cloth, and a bunch of us trying to get the orders finished on time. We try to keep things organized, but in a dyeing plant, there's always a bit of a mess somewhere. That's just how it goes.
